Secrets of the flesh. Workshop in Thailand, 2025. Picture by Fern Lou

Sharing a journey of transformation and liberation through movement and awareness.

In my workshops, I share tools from somatic practices inspired by Noguchi Taiso, received through Imre Thormann; Medimotion, from Rizome Lee; organic movement, from Yumiko Yoshioka; as well as Body-Mind Centering, Feldenkrais, and meditation techniques. My work is also deeply influenced by the pedagogy of Matilde Ciria and Jonathan Martineu.

Inspired by Butoh masters Tadashi Endo and Atsushi Takenouchi, I encourage participants to find their own original dance — the shining flower within each of them. Through different somatic approaches, we work on clearing the channels, entering an empty space, and allowing something greater than us to move through the body.

In Butoh, we say we are moved. Moved by images, by energy, by invisible forces. For this, we cultivate a state of deep availability.

In recent years, my research has been focusing on the search for duende through Butoh dance — finding my own dance, and supporting others in discovering theirs. Rooted in my connection to the south of Spain, I explore traces of ancestral gypsy memory within my body.

This is my ongoing search for my Butoh dance —Butoh as a constant inquiry, embodied through movement.

Roots: Somatic movement and Butoh

6-day inmersive movement research, in studio and nature

At The Garden, North Portugal

The week will include:
  • Somatic practices inspired by Noguchi Taiso, which understands the body as a “body of water” — fluid, adaptable, responsive to gravity and space.
  • Other somatic movement practices influenced by the work of Yumiko Yoshioka, Min Tanaka, Imre Thormann, emphasizing softness, weight, breath, and the body’s natural intelligence.
  • Guided improvisation through images, a core tool in Butoh, using poetic and physical imagery to stimulate inner landscapes and transform sensation into movement.
  • Resonance with nature itself, taking inspiration for the dance from nature elements.
